Knowing the dos and don’ts

I have a grand goal to make it to twenty-five years in business. There’s not much I haven’t heard in the last twenty-three years. Here’s my list of Dos and Don’ts.

Top 10 Things You Should Never Say To An Antique Dealer:

1. I’ll give you-------
2. I can get all this stuff at a garage sale for a dollar.
3. My grandmother had one of these.
4. This has a dent in it. Can you do better?
5. There’s one just like it down the street for $10 less.
6. But I only have $5 left in my wallet until payday.
7. I really don’t need this.
8. Don’t tell my husband-----
9. I’ll think about it. (Exit line).
10. Does this make me look fat?

Top 10 Things an Antique Dealer Likes to Hear:

1. Just what I’ve been looking for!
2. These are my initials.
3. I love it!
4. Do you have any bigger diamonds?
5. I’ll take both of these.
6. I need something that sparkles.
7. Why didn’t I know about this shop sooner?
8. My wife can’t get through Christmas without your silver bag under the tree.
9. Honey, I have 10 fingers don’t stop!
10. It’s me! I’ll take it!

I’m sure you have your own list, too. If so, email it to publisher@discoverypub.com.
